Just back from a local 'boot sale', where I purchased this antique brass and leather dog collar.
I don't think I'll be using it for Monty. I'll give the leather some treatment and hang it in the fireplace.
It cost me a staggering ONE EURO.

One of the advantages of being an insomniac - you get to the boot-sales in good time. I can never be bothered to get out of bed, so I only have half the candlesticks I should have.
ReplyDeleteThe collar must have been for a fairly solid dog. I still see the odd teenager wearing something similar around their necks.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it used to be a functioning collar but was fashioned into a decorative piece. Interesting find. You know how they have shabby chic? I guess you could call this man deco. Or doggy deco.
ReplyDeleteYikes, I wouldn't have wanted to meet that dog in a dark alley! Great find.
ReplyDeleteI think John's got one like that Cro, but it says 'sex slave' on the side...
ReplyDeleteLady M refuses to try it on!
ReplyDeleteTry lining it with a bit of fur, Cro. That should do the trick...
ReplyDeleteI've now done a bit of net research, and it seems to be ENGLISH. I've even found the word DOG scribbled into the name tag bit. One in good nick seems to be worth about £400.... mine is a bit rough, and probably only worth £399.
ReplyDeleteLOVE that patina...don't clean it too much!
ReplyDeleteAn amazing find for one euro!! It looks like something from a torture chamber!! ;)
