Precious Keys

Like most people, I dread the idea of losing my keys.

My French house keys are securely guarded. I protect them with my life. They are NEVER away from their place of safe-keeping. Touch them, and you die!

So, it was with much soul-searching that I reluctantly handed over TWO of them to Kimbo, who will pop over for a short stay in a week or so. I put them on a big yellow tag, and he's bolted them to his own house keys.

This (below) is official proof of my handing them over.

Whilst at the cottage Kimbo suggested that he would like to mow the lawns, and he needed the key to Rory (the mower), and to Rory's Garage.

As you can imagine, I was very hesitant to part with my keys; but he had me in an arm-lock, and I was forced to hand them over.

The problem now is 'Will I ever see them again'? He has been given a very stern warning about looking after them, and where to leave them when he returns.

Last year I entrusted my keys (against my better judgement) to a person who I know very well. She lost them, and I was forced to take an angle-grinder to several padlocks. Never again.

We took the above photo as definitive PROOF that they were handed over.

I shall now be a bag of nerves until we are reunited.

You made me laugh. If I was to lose my door key ( the only key I have) No car keys etc. There is a spare hidden away. Faiiling that the manager has the master key, so I would still be able to get into my flat. He is only able to use that if requested or if they think someone needs help.

Maybe you should get another set cut. Alternatively, or even additionally this, put your key/s in a small ziplock bag, put that into a small jam jar or similar and bury it somewhere in the garden where you know you can find it. That way you never need fear losing your keys again.

It's good to have a back-up, as long as he doesn't through your things whilst you're away.

Come off it Sue; that's far too sensible for me! No, I would have to rely on Lady M not having lost her set (some hope!).

I know the anxiety of keys. I also check a thousand times that all the important keys are in place, and they are indeed always there.

I am sure Kimbo is eminently trustworthy and will take great care of his precious cargo.

You'll have to let me know who you are!!!

I have said before; I need a door mat that says 'Keys, Money, List'. Just to remind myself.

I have great confidence in him; but even so....

Can't you have another couple of sets to make sure you always have a spare? Surely you have given Kimbo his very own set, so that you don't have to worry about him losing yours? Here when we have keys, they usually come in threes - possibly working on the premise that it's one to use, one to give to someone else for safe keeping and one to lose!

I've got all sorts of bug pink and red tags on my keys. The place where they usually vanish is the bottom of my bag. K has spares and spare house keys are stashed outside. Not telling where!!!
We have 2 lots of car keys.

Bug pink. 😅 I can't write a comment without making a mistake.

He does have his own keys, but not for the mower. We usually let the gardener mow for us.

When I was a teenager, my father gave me the key to the fuel tank on the farm, along with keys to the tractor to mow five acres. The keyring broke, the key to the fuel tank was lost, then he protested that it was the only one. He had to cut the lock off. One of only a couple of times I ever saw him mad.

I'm pretty careful with my keys which is why I'm so protective of them. We have a house key buried; and I'm not saying where either!

Strangely, I can understand his bed temper. I would have been the same.
