La Sinfónica Nacional Infantil de Venezuela.
This will gladden the heart of any music lover. A thousand (if not more) Venezuelan children under the enthusiastic batton of Sir Simon Rattle. I hope you have good speakers connected to your laptop!
THANK YOU! That was exactly what I needed to get my cold brutal winter worn bones smiling this morning! The world needs more kids making music, and of course less old grouchy people telling each other what they should do. Thanks!
It makes you wonder where those precious souls are today - could some of them be in those tragic groups fleeing the horrific things going on in Venezuela now. Here's a link to an earlier video about the beginnings of the orchestra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43tqQhOTCgQ
Thanks for that. Venezuela has always been a corrupt country. My wife lived in Caracas for several years (her father was a British diplomat), and they experienced it on a daily basis. Once after having been burgled the police came to investigate, and when they left even more was missing. It's rotten from top to bottom.
THE BELLS ..... THE BELLS ..........

*I guess we all have good things and bad things about where we live. One of
the lovely things about where our house is, is that it's a stones throw

Optimistic Cro!
The difference between an optimist and a pessimist, is that the optimist enjoys himself whilst waiting for the inevitable! I AM that optimist!
This is a daily, optimistic, 'photos and comments' blog. I make no judgements (only occasionally), just notes. If you wish to comment in any way at all, please feel free. Everything and everyone (except the obdurate and dictatorial) is very welcome.
I was born just south of London, but for the past 50 years I've lived in S W France. I am a painter by profession, and writer by desire. Lady Magnon and I live between an ancient cottage in a tiny village in perfectly tranquil French countryside, and a bijou townhouse in Brighton UK. In France we have plenty of fruit trees, all situated amongst a view that takes the breath away, in the UK we have a handkerchief sized patio. We also have a Border Collie called Billy. I try to treat our planet with respect, and encourage others to do likewise (without preaching).
Contentment is a glass of red, a plate of charcuterie, and a slice of good country bread. Perfect!
A brilliant start to a wet and miserable day here on the Kent coast... thank you Cro.

Light rain here too this morning Lettice. It makes a change!
DeletePerhaps they could do the same thing here with our street kids, adopt instruments instead of knives?

Some hope!
DeleteDoes the heart good to hear this, especially in these troubled times for their country.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I thought.
DeleteIt was all the joyous movement that got to me - that's the way to enjoy making music!
ReplyDeleteEven Rattle seemed to be enjoying himself.
DeleteAmazing. Latin classical. I hope those kids have enough to eat today.
ReplyDeleteOnly when they've swept a few chimneys, or worked a treadmill for a few hours.

ReplyDeleteThat just about sums up my reason for posting this.

DeleteThe Simon Bolivar orchestra is a truly amazing phenomenon. I remembered the 2008 Proms appearance which made huge waves here.
ReplyDeleteVery different to the Chinese approach. They seem to be having so much fun.
DeleteAh. If only they weren't in Venezuela.
