National Amy sings 'Teach Me Tonight' with Jools in 2005.


Amy looking good and singing beautifully, accompanied by Jools and Co; what a star she was! This is from 2005, before her 'problems' became more serious. A rare singer who totally understood the word 'phrasing' (as in music).

    She had a great voice and musicality, mature far beyond her years. One of my favourite albums is Back to Black - I play it all the time.

    After watching that I went on to watch other clips including her disastrous last concert in Serbia where she was booed. It made me cry.

    She needed help. Her death was a tragedy that should never have happened.

    A great talent lost the same way as so many before her.
    I wondered if the media frenzy around her at the time didn't help. All those nasty reports and unflattering photos can't be helpful to someone who's close to the edge.

    Yes Cro, as you say, she was a great singer - and as Jean says - the pressure on folk in the limelight is immense and some of them just can't take it.

    Going to see 'Amy' this week so she is on my mind just now. Every time I see footage of her performances I am amazed and then re-amazed at how so much power was generated from such a diminutive person. Wonderful singer and songwriter. Artist.
