This must be one of the saddest and most disturbing things I've seen for many years.
UK school-children are being invited on 'social media' to buy stab-proof vests. The situation in many inner city schools is now so bad that children not only go to school armed, but are also being advised to go with protection against being attacked.
Certain communities seem to stab each other as a first resort. They see their hero 'rap singers' doing it, so they blindly imitate.
How on earth have we come to such a situation? People have always stabbed each other, but not children, and not in such numbers.
Unfortunately one cannot rid the country of knives; every kitchen contains dozens. I suppose the only solution is to have all children walk through metal detectors when they arrive at school every morning.
What a very sad state of affairs.
I hadn't heard of this. I do worry about my youngest grandchildren. Boys aged 9 and 14yrs old. Although they live in a nice area and both are at good schools. No one is immune it seems.

DeleteI read a wide variety of newspapers and, therefore, can often accurately recognize the derivation of a story. This one just smacked Daily Mail to me and three seconds of research confirmed it is indeed a DM story.

I had no idea where the story came from, it appeared in my random MSN news grab.

DeleteSadly they are impressionable and following a trend. What American schoolchildren do today, British/European children do tomorrow. We live in such violent times and the media is largely to blame for the intense glorified reporting of this violence.
ReplyDeleteAbout a minute ago I was watching the news on TV, and Tom Cruise was talking about his new film. Nothing but violence, explosions, crashes, etc. Our children are being willingly brainwashed.
DeleteThe rise in knife crime is indeed alarming but we should not get this matter out of proportion. The chances of a schoolchild being stabbed in or out of school remain very small indeed.

DeleteI'm so glad I could bring up my children on this safe Greek island. They went on to raise their children here and it's still safe. Children can roam free without danger.

DeleteSo sad. Children are no longer innocent when they are forced to think about a potential stabbing and wearing a vest for prevention.
