The Stork has visited!

We have a new baby girl next door.

Our little street was created in the 1960's. There are 17 bijou houses built in a faux Regency/Georgian style, that are probably more suited to middle-aged, or retired, people than younger newly-weds.

From what I have heard, and observed, this is possibly the first baby ever to have been born in the street. I have no way of confirming this, but it does seem likely.

Little 'Rae' was born on Sunday 12th February, and I met her just a couple of days ago when I delivered a 'welcome home' Teddy Bear. She is a real cutie, and, I'm told, behaves herself impeccably.

On the subject of Teddy Bears, I had real difficulty finding one. Many of the shops that sell soft toys sell Japanese 'dolls'. They are really not nice, almost horrific; with crazed eyes and vicious teeth in open mouths. Not at all suitable for a small baby. Eventually I did find one that was almost what I was looking for, but it wasn't perfect. Anyway, I just hope she likes it when she's older. At least it is an actual Bear, it's soft and fluffy, and has a pleasant face.

So, welcome to our street Little Rae. I'm sure Lady M won't be able to resist offering her baby-sitting services, and the ooh-ing and coo-ing, when she begins to go for her 'pram' walks, will be stentorian.

  1. Don't get me started on the Japanese. I am ashamed of myself. But there it is. For my sins I do run into loads every day. Unnerving. Not least their, seemingly, sense of entitlement. Good job that most of those I encounter are youngsters; so my suspicions are largely balanced by motherly instincts kicking in. Mind you, if I were their mother I'd tell them to stop all that self conscious mega styling (see your "Japanese dolls"). They are so immaculate, beige and black, it's a miracle they ever do get out of the house.

Well, my dear Cro, there was a bit of early morning "racism" (is it?) to be ignored.

Congrats on the new addition to your bijou street. Give it about ten months or so and she'll be walking Billy.

    1. It's a trade agreement; Lady M babysits now, and the little girl walks Billy later.

  3. Next time that you need to buy a soft toy, look at " Jelly Cats". My little grandson loves the blue rabbit that I gave him when he was born, and my 12 yr old granddaughter collects them. ( I gave her a " baby" dinosaur for Xmas.

  5. May you your sweet new arrival bring you lots of joy. Sounds as though you and Lady M are the built-in babysitters. Though maybe there are more in the street who feel the same. She's a wee novelty
Small babes are delightful and you can give this one back to its parents when she tires you out

    1. Lady M will offer, but not me. I do like babies, but not to look after one. I'd be scared stiff.

  6. Babies and young children are almost unheard of around here - the place is full of retired expats. The only time small children were seen was the occasional visits from grandchildren - and most of them are grown up now!.
However just nearby we do have the dubious honour (for her) of being neighbours to the only Spanish girl and her three young children. I feel sorry for her because there is no other young company either for her or her boys. Apart from the occasional dog walker passing the time of day, she has no contact with anyone.

    1. I don't think there has ever been anyone in the street under the age of about 30. It probably has something to do with the price of housing.

  7. When Little Rae is older, she will be able to yank on Uncle Cro's beard to see if it comes off. It might just be a false one purchased from a joke shop long ago.

    1. When she's old enough to do that, I'll probably be in my box.

    1. I don't think we'll have to worry about that any more, all our own children have had their broods.

    1. And he was right, they're best in small doses; unless they're your own.

  10. You and Lady M will enjoy having Rae next door. Infant to toddler seems to pass quickly and is always lovely. With some effort, you found the perfect soft and cuddly teddy for Rae.

  13. Oh I do love new babies! She will love the teddy bear I am sure of it. Here in Adelaide we have a whole Teddy Bear Shop, with bears in all sizes and colours, some dressed, some not.

    1. We used to have a beautiful Bear shop here too, but sadly it has closed. They sold Steiff, etc, at all over £50 each, There is another that I visited where you buy the exterior, then they stuff it for you with a big blowing machine. They were all silly looking Bears.
