Almost there.

I've been very busy over the past few days, so Lady Magnon has been left to her own devices.

She tends to get festive well ahead of me, and she's been dying to start baking.

OK, they may not win a 'neatness' competition, but they are delicious. She even followed Weaver's advice to make her pastry with Orange juice, which was excellent.

Don't forget to have a wish when you eat your first Mince Pie of the season; those wishes always come true.

Today, I believe, is her cake day.

p.s. I apologise for not having answered your comments recently.

  1. They look delicious - this is not the season to be on a gluten free diet.

  3. I can't tell you how happy I am that I haven't had my first mince pie of the season yet. Would have clean forgotten to make that wish. And at the moment there is one that needs to come true - urgently. So, thanks for the reminder, and festive greetings to Lady Magnon.

    1. Mincemeat, not meat. Originally they had meat in them, but these days it's just a mixture of dried fruits, alcohol, and suet.

    2. I did go and look up the recipe when I saw the mixture in your post the other day and read about the meat in the original one. I want to try and make it one day if I understand what suet is. I think it could be "strutto"

    3. Suet is the hard fat that surrounds beef kidneys. Doesn't sound very nice, does it!

  8. Cro, perhaps you should list the ingredients for Maria's benefit. Are you sharing this recipe or is it a family secret?

    1. A very good idea. So for Maria, here is James Martin's mincemeat recipe. I think it's much as Lady M's, other than she always adds chopped Prunes.

    1. See above Yael. No meat these days, just fruits.

    2. It is a misnomer. No meat. No savory. A mincepie is a sweet thing often warmed and eaten with cream.

  10. Those look scrumptious ! Are there any left?
Maria and yael - if you look back to Cro's blog of last Saturday (3rd December) you'll see what goes into traditional mince pies. There is no meat at all - dried fruits are the main ingredients, together with spices and brandy. When you make it, the kitchen smells wonderful !

    1. Thanks Coppa. The making of Mincemeat is very much Lady M's department, so I'm not totally sure of what goes into it. I've now given a link (above) to a classic recipe.
