Yawn.......

It's that time of year again. People in silly clothes, perform awful songs, in front of 'over the top' flashing lights and smokey backgrounds. Yes, it's The Eurovision Song Contest time.

Apart from the awful songs, the competition has become overly political in recent years. This year it has actually become RACIST as well.

Several countries have refused to take part on account of Israel participating. Can it be because 1.200 innocent Israelis were slaughtered by terrorists on October 7th ? Or maybe it's because in their retaliation, those who were attacked actually managed to give Hamas a bloody nose !

Strangely, I don't remember any country staying away because Germany (the worst WAR-CRIMINALS of the 20th C) were taking part. But perhaps they didn't see the HOLOCAUST's 6 Million deaths as racist genocide.

As far as the 'singing' is concerned, it was the usual round of shouting, dancing, and awful costumes. The worst of which must have been Albania, who's song was about his dead mother, and Greece that was simply mad. The UK, of course, came last; it's traditional.

I think we've all had enough. Time to call it a day !

N.B. Boy George (above) who (for unknown reasons) was representing San Marino, was eliminated at once. In that outfit, I'm not surprised.

  1. I applaud you for watching it, I vaguely recall seeing a bit of it half a century ago and it was crap then.

    1. I forced myself to watch about 30 mins. I was dreadful.

  2. As the songs have got worse over the years, have you noticed how the stage and the over the top lighting has gotten bigger and more ridiculously over the top. As if we'd ever fall for that.
And Boy George seems to be morphing into one of Ken Dodd's Diddymen.
But shame on those countries that boycotted the event over Israel. And why has the rest of Europe turned their back on us? Is it because of our awful entries or the fact that we withdrew from the E.U?

    1. The EU like to punish us as much as they can over Brexit. I think they also find it embarrassing that most songs are sung in English.

    1. I find the whole thing fascinating (in a bad way). People become obsessed by it. They throw parties. I was amused by the Boy George story too.

  4. I haven't watched it since ABBA won.

  6. Yes, this competition is hard to watch, for many reasons. I watched until the Israeli song, which was third, and it wasn't just the countries that boycotted us. Outside, there were anti-Israeli hate demonstrations by hundreds of people, and during the Israeli song, boos could be heard inside the hall. The Israeli singers practice in advance how to deal with all this hatred. Did you know that here in Blogland, too, there are those who have been boycotting me since October 7? A few respectable ladies and one man. I practice on my own how to deal with it, not always successfully.

    1. You (and I) have the comfort in knowing that the world will eventually understand who are the good people, and who are the bad. It is simply a phase we are going through, when murderous terrorists are supported by so many.

  7. Trying to remember when I last watched it - probably when ABBA won!
From the comments I've read, these days it seems it's not so much about how awful the "songs" are but a competition of how apalling the singers are!

    1. Everything from the hype, to the outfits, the ghastly songs, the fireworks, and the constantly flashing lights, makes it a total joke. Add to that the racism, and we have as good a reason as any to abandon it for ever.

  8. I am surprised you don’t know how many died in the Holocaust.

On a separate note, we had the Aldi duck legs last night. Had the ones with the hoisin sauce. You are right they were excellent. Used about one third of the sauce and supplemented with grated ginger

    1. The 6 million was an estimate, I don't have the exact figure at hand. I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed the Duck. A bargain.

    2. You have a typo as your post says 2 million.

The duck legs are, as you said, very useful for a quick, no fuss meal. We had been out all day, threw them in the overnight as soon as we got home and they were ready in no time. And a bargain!

  9. I avoid The Eurovision song contest like The Plague. It's all so glitzy and plastic with idiots dancing around and every year's new songs simply add to the Eurovision pile of unmemorable shite. Please excuse my French.

    1. You describe it perfectly. I wasted about 30 mins of my life last night, and now I'm regretting it.

  10. It's not an enjoyable show any more. I just hear the results in the morning and move on. Greece thought they'd win with that terrible show. They came 10th. Every year it's worse.
My daughter told me that the UK got one point and the singer was sitting all alone amongst the other countries groups. A Danish girl came over and grabbed him and added him to the Danish group. Doesn't matter how bad it was he should have some support.
I didn't hear any of the songs. The Greek one has been played over and over on tv. A few seconds is enough
Well at least it's over for another year.
Oh and Australia came 4th. My brother was very pleased. Australia???

    1. I thought the Greek one was awful, and the UK one even worse. I didn't hear enough to make any decision on a winner (THANK GOODNESS).

  12. From what I'm seeing on YouTube (forget our major outlets), there are thousands and thousands of your citizens marching on the streets in protest against the bombardment of their humanity. Sounds like you're not the only one fed up.

    1. There were two lots of marches. One anti-semitic, and the other anti-islamic. What a wonderful country this is. Hatred everywhere !!!
