In the Summertime.

In 1970 Lady M and I were still at college, where one of our good friends was a lovely Greek girl who would boil-up Greek Coffee in a little pot (in the studio), and play this record over and over again.

It now totally represents that year of our studies (our degree year), and brings back so many memories.

So here is Mungo Jerry (Ray Dorset singing), and their HUGE HIT; In the Summertime. Enjoy.

Roger and Anne in the West Surrey College of Art and Design. Good times.

How on earth did you get a degree in one year?

This great Summer 70's song will always be on my 70's Summer playlists and it always turns up on my many 1970's CD compilations.
But how sad that the wokerati as in woke crowd, have partially outlawed it's airing on the radio simply for the song words in it, 'Go out for a drink and a drive, go out and see what you can find.'

In my case over 4 years.

I didn't know that it had been outlawed, but nothing surprises me.

Cro, Have you ever visited beautiful Canterbury in Kent?
I've just put up a picture post.

It has been criticized and debated but it hasn’t been banned you will be pleased to know.

There is a reason that take a drink and drive minimizes drinking when driving. Nothing to do with wokeness

I have indeed. I very nearly went to school there, but chose another with a similar name elsewhere.

I can't leave a comment on your page, but I've always thought of Canterbury as Kent's most beautiful city. Your photos prove it.

Mungo Jerry played that song at The Isle of Wight Festival - Bank Holiday weekend 1970. And I was there dancing in the sunshine of that glorious, never-to-be-forgotten summer when Jimi Hendrix played "God Save the Queen" under the Freshwater stars. 56 years ago.

It was a hot summer and a perfect record, I remember it well, I was just getting my own taste in music rather than listening to the music my older brothers played.

That's a lovely memory. I don't know why but it makes me a little sad...maybe it's because that was so long ago now and it has all gone so quickly, Enjoy your Summer.

I never saw Hendrix, but he did play at The Art College here in Brighton when Lady M was in attendance. She has never forgotten 'the experience'.

It brings back so many memories; far more than any other records of the time.

I know what you mean. It reminds me of my student years, which were wonderful.

It was not in the Art College, but at the Univetsity of Sussex and a little time later at the Brighton Dome.

I was 15 in the summer of 1970, visiting my penpal in Montauban, SW France. We played that record over and over in her bedroom. Nearly 60 years later we are still good friends and see each other every couple of years. Happy memories.

Mungo Jerry and one of my favourite songs. The happiest of memories. I still sing along with my little Greek girls! And of course that traditional Greek coffee is still made the same way

A happy song with happy memories. Life was so much better back then - none of this woke nonsense spoiling every simple pleasure!
