I can't count the amount of times I've laughed (or despaired) at the TV, or my laptop, when I see images that I just know that people will seriously regret later in their lives.
I suppose the classic current ones are young men sporting the 'Meet Me at McDonalds' hairstyle; a disheveled mop of hair hanging over their forehead and eyes. What ARE they thinking!
This one above is another classic of its type. Wedding photos are invariably spoilt by scruffy 'grooms', and one has to feel so sorry for the bride that her big day photo was ruined by a groom who forgot to wash and comb his hair, and was trying to blur his memory by swigging beer from a bottle. Others have scruffy untied ties, or old tracksuits; the possibilities are endless.
This wedding above was apparently this man's FIFTH, so he probably didn't care that much.
We all have photos that we would love to eradicate. I personally have plenty where I'm holding a cigarette, which I don't like. Women tend to dislike more than men because they were caught unawares, NOT looking like Brigitte Bardot.
Of course, celebs, politicians, etc, all live in fear of photographers. Miliband and his Bacon Sandwich, Kinnock on Brighton Beach, Boris hanging from a zip wire, Ed Davey on the water, etc, etc. They have to be on their guard at all times.
These days with 'deep fake' and AI, one can make almost any photo into something it isn't. This can be fun, but it can also be very disturbing. Maybe AI could even make the chap above have his hair washed and combed, and the bottle removed.

I am trying to understand what you are talking about. Leave people be.
ReplyDeleteA photo is a snapshot in time. What's "scruffy" about the groom in above photo? It's in your head. Not on his. He clearly enjoys life (look at his laughter lines round the eyes) - and, maybe, was late in the shower. Not a hairdryer in sight.
"Photos you'd like to eradicate"? You ain't seen nothing yet. One of my sisters - don't ask - keeps a special shoe box full of the worst. Not of her, naturally. Last photos of her? I live abroad so haven't seen her for years; just as well as, apparently, she could now pass for Sylvester Stallone's mum. Where were we? Last photos of her: She, advisedly, sits with her back to the camera :). Even our mother, bless her - she died a couple of months ago - would barely recognize her. If that sounds unkind it's because it is. Truth has potential to hurt.

The fact that you like that wedding photo says more about you than it does about the groom. But I have come to expect such things from you.
DeleteIf you would be happy to go down the aisle with an unwashed beer swigging person, that's up to you. I'm pretty sure than most women wouldn't.
I always make sure I see the photo taken before it's shown around. It's so easy these days to delete and take another.
ReplyDeleteThose old photos? There's nothing I can do about those. School photos are worse. Long pig tales and a severe straight fringe. Oh and one I have with an afro perm. That must have been in the 80s. But now I look at these and it's like seeing an another person.
We all have some of those hidden away at the back of a cupboard. Lady M occasionally throws a few more away, but there are plenty that remain!
DeleteWho knows? Perhaps the bride is turned on by that look and he's doing it for her. It certainly looks like they're having fun.
ReplyDeleteI think she may have just spotted an old well-groomed boyfriend.
DeleteThe photo is far from flattering. I don’t like the current “unshaven” look.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw the title of your post, I did think that you would be talking about another photograph that has had a lot of press lately.
I'm trying to think of the one you mean, but there are plenty about.
DeleteLet me give you a few clues - it features three people, one of whom is incarcerated, one of whom is dead and one of whom doesn’t sweat.
DeleteI am always disappointed when I see photos of me and hope that I don't really look like that in reality.
ReplyDeleteMe too. They all make me look old, balding, and toothless. Of course I am nothing like that!!!
DeleteShe's just married Sean Bean. I don't imagine she cares about the odd duff photo!
ReplyDeleteIs he a 'good catch'?
DeleteEven with a terrible track record, many women would be tempted! Wiki him!
DeleteHe says that women see him as 'A bit of Rough'. I think he's right.
