Lady M to K. What does S want for Christmas?
K. Nothing!
Lady M. She must want something; what about some College Gin?
K. She doesn't drink Gin!
Lady M. What Gin?
K. The College Gin you just suggested you bought for her!
Lady M. I didn't say Gin. I said Collagen.
K. No, she doesn't drink that either.
Lady M. What DOES she want then?
K. A Kindle.
Lady M. OK, I'll buy her a Kindle.
K. No you won't, you'd buy the wrong one!
Lady M. Why does she want one; does she read a lot of books?
K. Not at the moment.
Lady M. Why would she want a Kindle then?
K. So that she can read more.
Lady M. Why doesn't she?
K. Because she hasn't got a Kindle.
And so it continued. No-one any the wiser. Me laughing my head off, whilst mother and son sparred against each other to no avail.
Nobody knows what S wants for Christmas. However, I have already bought my prezzies for her. I can't tell you what they are in case she reads this (which she won't).
As usual we've suggested that we only give each other one present, and that it costs no more than £4.50p. But as usual that falls on decidedly deaf ears.
I'm really looking forward to Christmas. All the Turkey and Sprouts; I love it.

An echo of what's going on all over the Western world. I'd go for the CollegeGin 🙄 the drinkable version.
ReplyDeleteWhat on earth can you buy for £4.50. That must really limit the list. A pair of Sox?
Our limit used to be 20 euros. It's 30 now. So much easier though with our lottery. We only have one present to buy.
Prosecco and Baileys for most of the females., brand name Tshirts for the boys. Boring but at least they'll be acceptable.
I try to buy consumable gifts; things that don't hang around. I never buy anything that requires taste in fashion. Food and cash for my two Uni grandsons; but a lot more than £4.50p.
Delete"S" might like ear muffs so she doesn't have to listen to her in-laws rabbiting on about Haddock's, Ely, anchovies on toast and The Duchess of Sussex.
ReplyDeleteShe moans about things even more than we do. Especially Ginge and the Winge.
DeleteI shall be escaping Christmas again this year, but just sending a restaurant gift voucher for my sister and cash for her grandchildren. Easy .peasy.
ReplyDeleteA restaurant gift voucher sounds like a very good idea. I shall make enquiries.
DeleteDon’t forget that book I mentioned.
ReplyDeleteI made a note!
DeleteI'm happy to see someone enjoys Christmas. Were it to last two days short of a week it would be two days too long for me.
ReplyDeleteFor me it starts on Christmas Eve, and continues until Jan 1st. However, I do admit to having completed my present buying today. All done!
ReplyDeleteHuguette
S is my Daughter-in-Law (K's wife). I do like your idea of a poem. I'm not sure if my family would appreciate it. They are all too mercenary.
