OAP's in the UK are about to be clobbered yet again.
Previously they were protected by the 'Triple Lock'; a system that compared three lots of figures. 1: Inflation. 2: Average wage growth. And 3: a flat rate of 2.5%. The Old Age Pension payments always kept pace with the highest of these three figures. This will soon be abolished by the Socialists, and those who have PAID INTO the system all their lives will no doubt find themselves poorer, with the saved money going to pay BENEFITS to those who've mostly never paid a penny towards their hand-outs.
The State Pension in the UK is £240 per week; £12,500 per annum.
To keep just one illegal immigrant in the UK costs an average of £53,000 per annum.
Only the Wokiest of left-wing Wokies would suggest that that was fair. And they will now take even more from the OAP's to pay for those who are in the country illegally, and have never paid a single penny into the system.
Of course not all Benefits Payments are made to Illegal Immigrants, there are only around 1.2 Million of them, and I doubt very much if all 1.2 Million of them cost the country £53.000 pa.
It does seem very unfair to take away from those who have contributed, but no longer have a powerful voice. Labour has always been a 'Tax, and Spend' party, but they're now a 'Tax, Plunder, and Spend' party.
It'll only get worse. Next month we have The Budget. Hide your daughters!!!
When one looks at the reprobates governing this country I would lock up daughters, sons, dogs, cats and goats. Nothing and nobody is safe.

DeleteThis might be controversial but I am a pensioner, just. As you know we have had the awful experience of caring for my Dad with his facial.tumour. He has worked all his life in a cotton mill and done three years in the RAF. We are now in the unenviable place of funding his care home fees of £6500 a month. His home has been sold.
ReplyDeleteSurely what Burnham.is proposing is the best idea so far? No.one else has had the courage to make such a decision.. If it means everyone that needs care, gets it. Free at the point of need. Level.playing field for everyone.
I think Mr Burnham has taken a difficult and unpopular decision. But at least he's done something.
Take away my triple lock. I hand it over with pride. Look after the hardworking people whose home is their only asset. No one should lose their home to pay for care when others get it for free, even if they haven't worked a day in their life but were capable of doing so.
I have to agree with you about the Care Service. If Burnham can achieve some type of NHS Care service he will be remembered for that; and rightly so. It should never have ended. When my late father returned from hospital as a Double Amputee, I was told that I would receive help; no-one ever turned up!!!

DeleteThe government should be prioritising British young people. Not illegal immigrants, and not OAPs who were lucky enough to reach adulthood during a time when buying a house was affordable, the cost of living wasn’t extortionate, and the government wasn’t wasting money on immigrants instead of its own people. The current generation of OAPs in hindsight will seem incredibly lucky in comparison to what’s in store for the younger generations when they reach retirement age
ReplyDeleteThe Old Age Pension is no different to any other Insurance Policy, it should be honoured in the same way. Imagine if you had a crash in your car, and the insurance company said they would give some of your claim money to illegal immigrants. Would you be happy? Taking away pension money is no different.
DeleteThe state pension is very different from an insurance policy. With insurance you pay according to the risk, actuarial models calculate the changes you will have a crash, thus the premiums for an 18 year old would be significantly higher than for a 50 year old. Premiums used be lower for females until the ECJ foolishly, in my opinion, decided that was gender discrimination.
DeleteThe state pension, on the other hand everyone gets based on how many years they have contributed. And the “I’ve earned it as I paid in all those years” argument doesn’t work. It doesn’t take many years before you are getting out more than you paid in, especially for women - now that was gender discrimination against men.
On the subject of insurance were you able to get you car insurance down to a reasonable amount?

They can do what they like with the pension system. Whatever happens, I will manage. Have done for 77 years, not going to give in now. When I am in need of care they can have my house to pay for it. As for a random troll asking personal questions about one's finances, mind your own business.

The King gives his income to the State, and receives back 'The Sovereign Grant', which is a percentage of what he gave. I'm not sure but I think he gets about 75% which is to pay for everything.

DeleteI wonder why many pensioners are being forced to sell their homes to pay for their monthly accomodation in a Care Home. Is there perhaps a two tier system?
ReplyDeleteIt's just that an elderly family member of mine happens to be in a Care Home under a Government/Local Council scheme where by his weekly Government Pension payment of roughly £200 a week actually covers the cost of each week he resides there. Hence a full month's stay there costs around a Thousand Pounds a month.
Oh sure he has a basic minimalist room with a tv and bathroom, along with a community tv room and dining room with three meals a day plus cups of tea throughout the day. And as a family member I receive online monthly invoices showing how his meagre pension is covering the cost of his monthly residency at the Care Home.
Mind you, the residents on the top floors of the Care Home are paying full whack with astronomical monthly fees, with all the comforts of home, and with their own homely posessions and furniture plus extras.
So is there a two tier Care Home system that I wasn't aware of.
Or is it that some elderly people are kept off the lower paying and basic Care system as they had owned their own property?
I don’t really understand your point. Of course if you have money to can get better accommodation. What Burnham is proposing is people won’t have to sell their homes to pay for the care element. As he said on the radio today why should care for cancer be treated differently from care for dementia.
DeleteI am also of pension age and fully support adjusting the triple lock. It was costing far more than was expected when it was introduced. I am glad a PM finally had the guts to tackle this. It will cost votes because old people vote more than the young.
ReplyDeletePM Andy Burnham did a brave thing yesterday - grasping the nettle of future proof pensions and steering the country towards a better future re. health and social care. If you can't see that you need to make an urgent appointment at Specsavers. By the way, Badenoch, Farage and their ilk have been bleating for ages about bringing down welfare spending - including addressing the pensions question. Like any family, a society must live according to its means.
