Ignoring the rights and wrongs of the war in Iran, one of the most bizarre sides to the current conflict must be that people are being arrested in the UAE for taking photos of war damage. I see that 70 Brits have been arrested, and face 10 year Jail sentences, for taking photos of bomb damage in Dubai (above).
The authorities claim that it shows their country in a bad light. However, what shows them in an EVEN WORSE LIGHT, is arresting innocent people for telling, and showing, THE TRUTH.
It has to be said (because it's true), that certain cultures really are totally BONKERS.
In The West you might be in trouble for lying, whilst in The Middle East it's the TRUTH that'll get you in very deep poo! Bizarre!
The Dubai authorities must have known that pictures of the war damage would get out online. After all Dubai is home to an army of instagramers and online creators.
ReplyDeletePerhaps the authorities out there don't want to tarnish the supposed peaceful utopia that they have spent billions in creating.
But giving out possibly 10 year punishment sentences is outrageous.
Showing damage would encourage sympathy. Arresting those who show it; doesn't.
DeleteSome people can't stomach the truth. They want a sanitised version of how they think the world should be, which is as far from the truth as you can get. They dress it up with confusing language rather than call a spade a spade. Now we are at the situation where the camera can lie. Pictures can be manipulated to represent what the eye wants to see.

ReplyDeleteControlling the media is becoming more prevalent. Broadcasters and comedians have recently been taken to court for speaking about unflattering truths. Some have paid millions to eliminate the court battle.
And poor J K Rowling has been totally outcast by the Woke Club for telling a basic truth. Luckily she has more supporters than detractors.
DeleteDubai is a country with Sharia law. It tries to look western, but it is not!. Hold hands or kiss in public jail. Get drunk in public jail and deported. Say anything about the rulers jail. Sex before marriage jail and or death penalty.
