I am H.A.P.P.Y.


I've mentioned several times on this page, that I am very keen on Breast of Lamb (Lamb Ribs).

A really nice new 'Deli' has recently opened nearby, and whilst visiting my Pharmacy (Boots) I popped in to say hello.

I was able to buy several things that I can't find elsewhere, and the people were both friendly and charming; which is a bonus. 


The two pieces of Lamb were cut for me directly from a whole carcass, by a pukka Butcher, and I was amazed to see that they cost just £5.93.

My favourite way of eating the Lamb is cut into two pieces, cook on the BBQ, and sprinkle with Cumin powder before serving (or Ras el Hanout, which I also bought yesterday). In the Summer I serve it with a simple Tabouleh. There's not a lot of meat on the ribs, but they are delicious. Have a roll of Kitchen tissue handy; this should be eaten with fingers!

Otherwise it goes into an Irish Stew, or a Lamb Tagine.

However it's eaten, it's the tastiest cut of Lamb..... and the cheapest.

I am very happy to have an excellent nearby supplier.

  1. That's an excellent Deli to visit. If they'll cut off the amount you want, and it's so cheap, with a smile, no wonder you're Happy.
    You're a lamb expert so I'm sure it will be delicious however you cook it.
    I love grilled lamb chops. Definitely finger food. Oh so good. Oil and oregano and lemon juice if you have to

  2. If you enjoy those ask him if he buys cull ewe. (Mutton) where you are I suspect. I love the flavour but struggle to appreciate the smell. It's okay once it's cooked it doesn't smell half as bad.

    1. From my memory, I've only eaten Mutton once, and that was in France; some Mutton chops. They were very good. I doubt if this new Butcher would sell Mutton; there's no demand for it down here.

  3. What a bargain! Lamb is my favourite meat but P is not keen so I only get to enjoy it if it's on the menu when we are eating out.

  4. That sounds delicious, Cro.
    I rarely eat lamb here because it's Mutton and has a much stronger taste. Last week I went out for a meal with friends and decided to have Lamb chops and chips with salad. Chops are always cut wafer thin and these were over-cooked and a tough as leather. There was more on my plate when I finished than when I started! What I can't understand is that this was at a very poplular restaurant! Not a place I'll visit again.

    1. It's a sin to overcook Lamb. It should always be pink inside. If the resto has a trip advisor thingy; I would warn everyone!

  5. I love most cuts of lamb, growing up in a large family we often had the cheaper cuts of meat, hubby will only eat it if it's bones and then done in the slow cooker.

  6. Cro, It sounds like you're on to a good thing with your new little shop.
    I recently bought a Sainsbury's ready frozen meal Lamb dinner. Sadly the meat was as tough as old leather.

    1. I do occasionally buy Sainsbury's curries, but they have to be 'worked on'. I think I'd be wary of most 'ready mades'.

  7. Your new butcher shop sounds excellent. They custom cut for you and that is always a bonus.
    The only way I eat lamb is at a Greek restaurant.

  8. Looks wonderful, Stephen's Mom, Peggy in Yorkshire, taught me how to cook lamb about 20 years ago, everytime I make it I think of her.
