Chris Rea ~ Driving Home For Christmas (1986)

As most of you will know, Chris Rea died on Monday.

This, his most famous song, will always be synonymous with Christmas. RIP Chris; and thank you!

  1. I wrote about how this lovely Christmas song came about on my blog yesterday and https://attheendofasuffolklane.blogspot.com/2025/12/December%206th%20-%20Driving%20Home%20for%20Christmas.

    1. It said 'the page I was looking for doesn't exist'. However, I have heard the story. It is a great song.

  2. My husband joked yesterday that we must have passed him on the motorway as he was " Driving Home for Christmas" in 1978 ! We lived in Morpeth then and would have been driving back to Leicester for Xmas, probably also in a mini!!
    Love his gravelly voice.

    1. That's a funny thought. I wonder? His voice was perfect for the song.

    1. It's amongst the best 4 or 5 Christmas songs. A true 'classic'.

  5. Was so sad to hear of Chris Rea's passing. Although I wonder why the media said 'Passed away after a short illness.' He was riddled with health issues for many years.
His song 'On The Beach' is literally my all time favourite Summer song. But most will remember him for this lovely Christmas song.

    1. 'On the beach' always reminds me of my summers in Formentera; another great song. However this will be the one that comes out every year, and will prove to be his legacy.
