Once when her daughter was quite small, i had a box of things to send over and wanted to use all different kinds of stamps just for fun. The postmaster waited on me and was thrilled with my request. It was a slow day for him, and we spent a bit of time looking through the different stamps he had.megan blogshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04555646904983619596noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5227064496185547313.post-25169699678595016852014-07-19T14:09:47.990+01:002014-07-19T14:09:47.990+01:00Maybe this person had just had his collection appr...Maybe this person had just had his collection appraised too.Cro Magnonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06840670227576695352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5227064496185547313.post-80317551526785119152014-07-19T14:03:12.896+01:002014-07-19T14:03:12.896+01:00When mother passed away in 1997, my parents' s...When mother passed away in 1997, my parents' stamp collection was among the things to sort through. All the stamps from the thirties on they saved, for "the value, some day." The value of precious little was a bit, but the value of most was face value. "Might as well use them for postage," the appraiser said, and so we did.Joanne Noragonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09834682329952369721noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5227064496185547313.post-14135564782029856492014-07-19T09:56:03.769+01:002014-07-19T09:56:03.769+01:00I shall keep them for the boys. Unremarkable and unused native stamps have face value in their own country. It's entirely legal to use unfranked/unused out of print stamps in the country of origin. All my friend's letters/parcels look like yours :-)
In the UK you can even use stamps with a 1/2p denomination (even though we haven't had the 1/2p for years) provided the total value of the stamps equals or exceeds the actual cost of postage.
If you send a lot of mail it's a clever way to go about it. Like buying currency cheaply. The value of usable stamps usually far exceeds what he paid for them.
Wandahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14674861197059323883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5227064496185547313.post-21570697635937749632014-07-19T07:02:48.862+01:002014-07-19T07:02:48.862+01:00What a fabulous collection - well worth saving I w...What a fabulous collection - well worth saving I would have thought - if only for their novelty value.elaine https://www.blogger.com/profile/17075935631756457901noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5227064496185547313.post-81942386121350080572014-07-19T06:07:06.141+01:002014-07-19T06:07:06.141+01:00The stamps were all unused collectors stamps.
