Count Arthur Strong: Flying Lesson


Count Arthur Strong (hat and red bow-tie) isn't to everyone's taste, but I particularly like this sketch.

CAS being his usual bumbling self.

    I like Count Arthur Strong, I used to listen to his show on Radio 4. I never knew he had a TV show but as I've never had a television I suppose that isn't surprising.

      I've always liked him. He is of the same ilk as Harry Worth, and I find them both equally appealing. We have a TV here, but it doesn't work. I have a plug-in thingy for it with hundreds of recorded programmes that I occasionally watch.

    I used to listen to him on the radio..never seen a TV show. Looks like a young Rory Kinnear at the start...he was at Oxford the same time as my son.

      Roy Kinnear lived just down the road from us in Sussex, I presume that Rory is his son? Poor Roy came to a sad end.

    From Wikipedia...
    Count Arthur Strong... an elderly, pompous, out-of-work actor from Doncaster with delusions that he is a show-business legend. The character has been described as "a mixture of physical and mental clumsiness, mirthful malapropisms and Tourettic tics, whose pride forbids him from ever conceding fallibility, even as his world crashes around him".

    I flew enough as a teenager, that I could get it in the air, getting it safely back on the ground is a bit more challenging. As they say, any landing you walk away from is a good landing.

      As long as the controls were simple enough, I expect we could all stand a chance at landing; even if the nose ended up in the ground!
