House for sale.

As you might imagine, we have more than our fair share of 'celebs' living here in Brighton & Hove. We are only an hour from central London, we're by the sea, and our weather is arguably the best in the UK. Perfect for those celebs who are looking for an out of town retreat, where they are not pestered.

One such resident is musician David Gilmour who has this house, above, on the seafront in Hove. Not my cup-of-tea architecturally, but it's right next door to our favourite Ice Cream Parlour; Marrocco's.

Gilmour is selling-up. He originally wanted £15 Million for it back in 2022, then he dropped the price to £10 Million, and I now hear it's for sale at the bargain price of £8,950,000. So, any sensible offer might be accepted! The house is just a few metres from the beach (across a quiet road), and has perfect sea views.

A major selling point is that occasionally Dolphins, and illegal-immigrant-filled-rubber-boats, can be viewed from the house with a good pair of Binoculars.

  1. I'm don't love the look of the house. It looks more like a commercial building. Those huge windows are good for looking out but also for looking in. I'll wait until he brings the price down just a little bit more.

    1. It needs to come down by about £8 million for me. No, I don't like the building either. Very 'Pop Star'.

  2. Oh! Ex Pink Floyd. Perhaps your local council can buy it - for the original amount - and house a few stateless and/or homeless. Change of use should not be a problem.

    1. We'd have every homeless person in the country heading for Brighton if they did that. They already live in luxury hotels, this would be far too luxurious.

  3. Not keen on the architecture either and certainly not at that excessive price! Looking at the roofline and the large windows, it could have been a church at some time in the dim distant past.
I have the binoculars, but neither the dosh nor inclination, to buy it!

    1. I believe it used to be a women's bath house.

    2. It reminded me of an old chapel or church.

  4. I can't think of anywhere worse to live actually, right on a crowded seafront and next to those soviet-looking apartments, no thanks. Certainly not 8K worth either, some people have a very wierd idea of what a desireable property is!

    1. Well, seeing as he has no takers for the property, I think most people see it like you!

  5. I met Dave Gilmour in Lindos, Rhodes in 1979 where I gave him some ideas for song lyrics and album covers. I heard that he is moving to Barnsley.

    1. I never met him, but I did live with Syd Barratt for a short while. I believe Barnsley is very nice at this time of year!

    3. Dave will be welcomed with open arms in Barnsley but he will have to get himself a flat cap and a whippet.

    4. Passport, flat cap, whippet; I'll let him know.

  6. DG gave the proceeds from his 3 million London mansion to an homeless charity. He's one of my all time prog rock heroes.

    1. I'd enjoy more being next door to Marrocco's Ice Cream Parlour.

  8. The sea view sounds wonderful. The architecture and tight city street are a no go for me.

    1. He had some interesting neighbours. Fat Boy Slim, Paul McCartney, Nick Cave, and several others. However, you can never change the location.

  9. I'm with JayCee and SueG on this one. I have a fabulous view across The Minch of the Scottish Highlands but no hordes of people. Give me solitude every time.
