Carols from King's 2018

Ding Dong Merrily from Carols from King's. I thought this year's service was one of the best. Plenty of classics, plus the wonderful baritone voice of Roderick Williams.

This was the last Christmas Eve extravaganza with Stephen Cleobury at the helm. He has been Director of Music with the King's College Choir since 1982, and retires in September next year (2019).  I would like to thank him personally, and of course the choristers, for a really beautiful carol service. It really was one of the best; Cleobury has always been the quiet voice of excellence, but he certainly went out with a bang!

  1. I can't remember if we watched the carols or saw it in the news, or somewhere else, but King's Choir, Once in Royal David, city went from being haunting to rich. Just sublime.

    1. I enjoyed it all this year, although I thought the arrangement of In Dulci Jubilo got a bit lost half way through.

  2. I don't know if they really have bell ringing in heaven but I have an old friend who is a campanologist and knowing his temperament they'd better do!

    1. I've heard that they do! They also have some in Hell, but the ringers are all from The Campanology Training school in Barnsley.

    2. The Queen's Speech was mainly appealing to The Commonwealth to bail us out after Brexit. They are getting her to pull a few strings.

    3. The Commonwealth is HUGE compared to the EU; Her Majesty is right.

    4. The EU is nothing. It is in turmoil, corrupt, fraudulent, and full of economies that haven't grown in decades, except Germany, France and the UK. Belgium's prime minister resigned a few days ago. The EU want us to keep pouring the money in, let them rot.

    5. I was just reading that the EU budget for 2018 was €160 Billion, which makes the UK's contribution exactly 10%. Will they miss it (unless May continues to pay)? Methinks YES.

  3. That was beautiful! A great way for me to put Christmas to rest. While visiting the mother-in-law in the nursing home a group of carolers came through. Their voices were awful but their spirits were gorgeous. Cheered us all.
