Scrumping Season.

Our own Cherries aren't yet ripe, so for the moment we rely on the kindness of others.

However, we do have plenty of our own Strawberries, and our Tayberries won't be long.

I really love this early red fruit season; it spells hope for a good Summer harvest.

    1. I planted ours in an old wheelbarrow, off the ground and away from slugs. It's worked really well.

    1. We only have one really productive tree and it's a yellow cherry; much later than the others. Our two younger trees are still thinking.

    3. It's very exciting. You wait and wait, then in mid-May there they are again, and for a few weeks we indulge ourselves (until the next year).

    2. Sunny but only 8 degrees, feels like 6 at the moment. Went shopping at 2pm yesterday afternoon, 10 degrees. It is bloody cold in Norfolk.

  8. Beautiful sunshine this morning but more rain on the way !!!!! I love summer fruits ...... I never understand why there are loads of black cherries in the shops and then, for just a few weeks a year, the wondrous yellow cherries appear for which you have to take a mortgage out to buy them !!! When I was young, you could only get yellow cherries ..... what happened ?!!!! XXXX

    1. The only reason why I planted our Yellow Cherry tree was because people told me that the birds don't eat them because they think they are unripe. They lied!

  9. No cherries grow in the Hebrides!. In New Zealand heaven was to buy a bag straight from the tree and drive home with the roof off the car disposing of the stones with a good curl of the tongue and a puff. (But don't tell anyone).

    1. We do the same, but on the walk home. By the time we get back there's usually just a trail of pips.

  10. No cherries, strawberries or elderflower here in Derbyshire yet. When the berries are ready it will be a race between us and the blackbirds !

    1. Now I can't wait for the Tayberries; I think they're my favourite of the early red fruits. They are swelling, and have been full of Bees.

  11. It's passionfruit and feijoa season in my neck of the woods. Both delicious. It's the first year my feijoa has fruited and I'm happy.

  12. The cherries here are just coming into season..4.50euros in the supermarket. Too expensive for us. They come from northern Greece. None around here.
Strawberries though are cheap and delicious! Haven't got any plants this year. Should have brought a few

  13. That bowl of cherries is beautiful. We had a nice hot spell several days ago in Ontario, but now we are back to being quite cool. My strawberries are just white blossoms at the moment. -Jenn

  14. I just had some lovely, red, juicy, local strawberries last evening. This is the best time of the year, until July when the peaches are ripe for the picking.

    1. I think we must be in an almost perfect Cherry growing area, as there is never a shortage, and they are always very good.
